Director and Teacher

Stephanie Bailyn

Stephanie is the founder of MitzvAcademy.  She is a passionate educator with over 20 years of experience teaching elementary school. With degrees in General Education, Special Education, and History, as well as a masters degree in Literacy Education, Stephanie brings a well-rounded and deeply informed approach to curriculum planning and teaching.  In addition to her work at MitzvAcademy, she also teaches 4th grade in the Great Neck Public Schools. As both a teacher and founder, she is dedicated to creating a joyful and engaging environment where children can develop a deep connection to Jewish traditions, values, and identity.  Her mission is to nurture not only knowledge, but a lifelong love of being Jewish.

Dena Weiner

Dena Weiner brings over 20 years of teaching experience to MitzvAcademy, along with a deep passion for Jewish education and childhood development. In addition to her role at MitzvAcademy, Dena is a 4th grade teacher in the Great Neck Public Schools, where she is known for her kindness, creativity, and energetic teaching style.

For 13 summers, Dena served as a beloved Division Leader at Camp Starlight, where she guided and inspired both campers and staff. As a mother of two daughters, Dena has always made it a priority to nurture a strong and joyful Jewish identity at home—something she brings to her students as well. Her warmth and enthusiasm help create a classroom environment where children feel valued, inspired, and excited to connect with their heritage.

JJ Weiner

JJ Weiner brings over 25 years of elementary teaching experience to MitzvAcademy, along with a passion for sparking curiosity and meaningful conversation in the classroom. In addition to teaching in the Valley Stream School District, JJ is a proud member of the MitzvAcademy faculty, where he encourages students to think deeply, ask questions, and engage with Jewish learning on a higher level.Judaism has always been a central part of JJ’s life, and he’s dedicated to passing that love and commitment on to the next generation. Whether in the classroom or at Camp Starlight—where he spent 13 summers as a division leader—JJ is known for his thoughtful approach, warm presence, and ability to make learning both engaging and purposeful.
